PERINATAL

Perinatal is meditative sound composition made for Czech Radio, based on an ongoing composer's project called Ingrediente, drawing inspiration from ancient traditions of european spiritual music (chant and early medieval polyphony). Those sources are „uploaded“ here to hearing experiences of 21st century, cross-genre improvisation and new possibilities of sound processing. The material of the composition comes from improvisations on three traditional Christmass chants which are complemented by composed polyphonic structures, additional studio work and sensitive sound-processing creating smooth ambient structures.
Central theme of the composition is phenomenon of the birth of a man within the both of secular and spiritual meaning of the word. In the beginning of the composition we can hear environment of shopping centre with czech christmass songs which are often „dowgraded“ just as support and stimulation of christmass shopping.

Traditional Chant Lyrics:
(Domine), labia mea aperies: et os meum annuntiabit laudem tuam.
Christus natus est nobis: venite, adoremus.
Venite, exultemus Domino; iubilemus Deo salutari nostro.
Praeoccupemus faciem ejus in confessione, et in psalmis iubilemus ei.
Christe, redemptor omnium,
ex Patre, Patris Unice,
solus ante principium
natus ineffabiliter,
Tu lumen, tu splendor Patris,
tu spes perennis omnium,
intende quas fundunt preces
tui per orbem servuli.
